Sydney is divided. From up to down, east to west, suburbs claim to be the food capital of the world’s 2nd most expensive city. But for us, Eastwood is the crème de la crème, the wagyu beef on a KBBQ grill, the first bite of a salt bread bun. In just a handful of streets, you can eat cuisines from across Asia (and in Rumbles’s case, Sydney from 40 years ago). With so much to eat, the question is, “How do you try it all?”

Well, the answer is simple: Start. We linked up with the boys from 108 Warehouse to hit Eastwood and try some of Rowe St’s finest.

It was a cool evening, so meat was on the menu. Our first stop was Jomaru Korean Hotpot. Classics like tteokbokki and gamjatang, plus sujebi, warmed both our souls and stomachs. But to our surprise, the pork ribs with sides of chips and pickles were the biggest hit. Our fingers coated in red-meat grease would’ve suggested we were at Franklin’s Barbecue in Austin, instead of next door to Siroo.

After a brief detour to La Vigne Bakery for an 8 pm coffee and a quick catch-up with 1300’s Rako, we headed to Tubros Burger. Created by the brothers behind Boom Cafe & Dining, Tubros Burger offers a range of smash burgers late into the night. Our only mistake was forgoing a double for a single patty; granted, we’d literally had a full meal just half an hour earlier. Also, I felt low-key awful for not dapping up the owner working the register. However, my tastebuds felt amazing.

To cool our stomachs, we waddled over to Max Joy Co. Eastwood, is filled with cafes offering refreshing desserts like bingsoo, pinyin, and all kinds of Dubai chocolate-flavoured treats (is this trend over?). However, nothing beats a scoop of ice cream after eating nothing but meat for 2 hours. In a strange act of solidarity, we all ordered the birthday cake flavour and a single parfait.

And that’s a wrap on our food tour of Eastwood. Though we were satiated, the pokies at Eastwood Pub needed feeding too, and the only thing on the menu was our hard-earned money. If we had documented this part, it would’ve been photos of a bunch of guys who’d lost money.

Massive thanks to 108 Warehouse for joining us. Follow them and pick up anything in-store or online; you literally can’t miss it. Big shout-outs to all the joints we visited. We’ve listed them below for you to try!
