Some people make films, others are filmmakers. Then there’s The Critics, who are on a whole other level.

‘Crocodile’ chronicles the life of Nigerian film collective, The Critics. Starting out as children with nothing more than smartphones and DIY sets in their homes, they evolved into self-taught filmmakers. Their inventive use of CGI and engaging storytelling helped them gain a following, including recognition from Hollywood heavyweights like J.J. Abrams and Idris Elba.

Directed by Prieta Brettkelly and The Critics, ‘Crocodile’ captures The Critics’ transformation from boys into men, showcasing the highs, challenges, and conflicts that accompany this formative period in their lives. In under two hours, we come to understand them not just as friends and family, but also as passionate creatives whose ambition knows no bounds.
Thanks to Raymond, Ronald, Godwin, and Pietra for taking the time to chat. You can catch “Crocodile” as a apart of this year’s Sydney Film Festival. Find all session and ticketing information here.
